The Spirit of holiness as the resurrected power of God
Rom. 1:3-4 Concerning His Son, who came out of the seed of David according to the flesh, who was designated the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness out of the resurrection of the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.
When I read this verse, the phrase "the Spirit of holiness" caught my eye. As a son of men, Jesus is the seed of David; yet as a son of God, Jesus was designed in power according to the Spirit of holiness out of the resurrection of the dead.
It is not too difficult to relate "power" to the resurrection of the dead because indeed, in order for the dead to be resurrected, there needs to be a kind of power. However, I found it refreshing that the Spirit of holiness is related to power as well.
I kinda had this idea that holiness is a status, and of course, as a Christian, it is also a process in which God has been making us holy day by day with the infusion of His life and nature. But can you imagine that holiness also gives us this power of the resurrection?
We really need this power of resurrection, or at least I really need this. In our facing difficulties, in our conversations with our spouses, in our traps with old memories...we all need the life of resurrection to bring us out of death. The more we experience the Lord's resurrection power to bring us out of death situation, we become "holier" than before; and whenever we experience God's holiness in us, this also brings us the power to withstand anything that drags us into death.
This is why the more we allow ourselves to dwell in sin, the less power we have. The power of sin and of death only brings us towards the death pit, yet only the power of the spirit (or the Spirit of holiness) can sanctify us day by day with an upward power to "resurrect"!
Hallelujah!
